Some Duct Tape & a Rubberband!
Ok! There’s nothing more frustrating to life and leadership than momentum killers! We all have to use the “big MO” to accomplish various tasks, projects and even the simple mundane…day to day grind. Momentum takes time to build and can leave a mess if stopped too quickly! My family and I were just getting settled into a routine in our new world (planting Celebration Philly) when we were a bit shaken (literally). We were welcomed to the northeast with an Earthquake & a Hurricane! Needless to say…my routine was a bit altered. What I’ve learned in the past two weeks is…to keep the “MO” alive…it’s okay to use “some duct tape and a rubberband”!
I’m a bit bothered that we try to “have it all together” and polished for people…when it’s not! My thought today is that it’s okay to let others “see the mess”. It doesn’t take away from the importance of what we’re trying to accomplish. Transparent leadership is a great starting point for anyone. In a corporate setting or at home…”masks” only place unneeded stress on all of our relationships. As a follower of Christ…I want to challenge myself to live a life that’s so real…others won’t have the opportunity to guess “what I meant” or “how I feel” or “what’s important”. Ambiguity doesn’t help you lead at a certain level…it just frustrates everyone in your world. BE REAL & honest!
If Jesus could have 12 “normal” guys around Him…what makes us try and hide stuff. My guess is pride and a few other things…probably a different post. Anyways! Imagine the “PR nightmare” when a “Christian” cuts off the ear of an “unbeliever” at a local protest! Talk about a momentum killer…how do you recover from that one?
So, here it is! Put a REAL SMILE on your face…throw some duct tape and rubberbands around your dream or vision to change the world…and GO MAKE IT HAPPEN! I’m starting to believe that the only thing that can truly “kill my momentum” is me!
Have you found it difficult to let others see the “true you”? Do you try and hide the duct tape? Let me know your thoughts by leaving a comment! Peace!
